Escape to the country, relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors at Goxhill Trout Lodge.Set on a working dairy farm in the foothills of the spectacular Southern Drakensberg, Goxhill Trout Lodge offers comfortable self-catering accommodation, excellent trout waters and a host of activities in and around the nearby villages of Himeville and Underberg.
Goxhill Trout Lodge offers accommodation for up to 30 people. Accommodation includes The Lodge, four farmyard cottages and beautiful camping facilities.
The Lodge is a modernised historic farmhouse, which can accommodate 11 people in four beautifully appointed bedrooms. Built more than 100 years ago, the "Gracious Lady" is carpeted and tiled throughout, and has a magnificent fireplace for those chilly evenings.
The farmyard life is a delight for children, while for the adults, there are many sporting and cultural activities nearby, and of couse, access to the internet!
Kingfisher and Fish Eagle cottages are available as limited self-catering units, set in a beautifule garden. Self-catering facilities include microwave oven, fridge/freezer, cutlrery, crockery, kitchen utensils and braai facilities.
We have a number of beautiful sites under the trees alongside the lodge, and overlooking the lake. Upmarket facilities are provided, and laundry can be arranged on request.
Goxhill boasts the largest lake in the Underberg area. The Polela River which runs through the lake provides a natural breeding environment for trout, providing fishermen with the opportunity of pitting their skills against 'wild trout' - an exciting challenge for both seasoned anglers and new-comers to the sport.
There is also a second, smaller dam on the farm, which is managed by the Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club.
Goxhill is a working farm, milking 1500 cows daily. Children are welcome to attend calf feeding and to observe milking in the rotary parlour.
Tours of the dairy can be arranged at 2 pm, or for the more adventurous, at 2 o'clock in the morning!
This is the perfect holiday destination for a family seeking to experience country living, experience the mountain scenery, and see the vast starry skies unspoilt by city lights.
